Reception in Honor of ExCEL Students

On July 12th, Ambassador Derse hosted representatives of businesses, government agencies and educational institutes, as well as ExCEL student exchange program participants at a reception in honor of her Lithuanian-American exchange initiative ExCEL.

Independence Day Celebration

On June 27th, a large group of diplomats, government officials, businessmen, culture and media representatives gathered at the Ambassador's residence to celebrate 236th anniversary of the U.S. Independence Day.

Multinational Military Exercise BALTOPS 2012

On June 1-16th, forces from 12 countries participate in the largest multinational maritime exercise this year in the Baltic Sea. In its 40th year, BALTOPS aims to improve maritime security in the Baltic Sea through increased interoperability and cooperation among regional allies.

Lithuanian Cadets Presented with U.S. Scholarships

On June 5th, Ambassador Derse presented full scholarships to two Lithuanian military cadets to attend U.S. Military Service Academies. Ambassador stressed that she sees cadets "as part of the framework on which Lithuania’s future peace and success is being built."

Opening of Nuclear Security Centre of Excellence

On June 4th, Ambassador Derse participated in the official opening of the Centre of Excellence for Nuclear Security at the Border Guard School located in Medininkai which will strenghten Lithuania’s contribution to the international fight against nuclear smuggling.

Welcome Home Ceremony in Panevėžys

On May 29th in Lithuania’s 5th largest city Panevėžys, Ambassador Derse attended and spoke at the welcome home ceremony for the 14th rotation of the Lithuanian PRT stationed in Ghor Province who have just returned from their six month rotation in Afghanistan.

Visit of U.S. Military Cadets

On July 16th, 19 U.S. military cadets, 2 military cadre and 2 civilian English Directors of Instruction came to Lithuania to participate in a cultural and language training program sponsored by the U.S. government.

Playing Basketball with the USA U17

July 2nd was a day to remember for the USA basketball team under 17 and young Lithuanian children. On their day off during the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship, in Kaunas, Lithuania, the USA team visited and orphanage in Kaunas to spend a few hours with more than 30 kids. Video »
Embassy Vilnius Marks Global Economic Statecraft Day

On June 14th, Embassy Vilnius marked GESD with a series of events and activities. Ambassador Derse hosted a roundtable discussion with journalists, Embassy Economic/Commercial staff, staff from the local American Chamber of Commerce, Invest Lithuania, Investor’s Forum and focussed on areas of mutual interest and how to move the economic relationship forward over the next year.
Reception in Honor of the Honorary Consuls of Lithuania

On June 12th, Ambassador Derse hosted the honorary consuls of Lithuania to the United States to discuss the bilateral relationship and issues of common interest, including the Embassy’s high school exchange program, ExCEL.
Opening of Rimas Čiurlionis Art Exhibit in Palanga

Reception for ASSIST Exchange Students

On June 7th, U.S. ambassador to Lithuania Anne Derse, Cultural Attache Nina Murray, and Educational Affairs specialist Rasa Baukuvienė attended the joint reception for returning ASSIST exchange students and those about to depart to the U.S. schools. Six students will participate in the program in 2012/13 academic year.
Young Americans Dance Workshop in Lukšiai

On June 7th, Diana and Jason Costa and Justina Daukšaitė participated in the opening ceremony of the Young Americans Dance Workshop in Lukšiai. The Young Americans is a non-profit organization that conducts music education and performance workshops around the world
Vilnius Jesuit Gymnasium Students Visit the U.S. Embassy

On June 6th, a group of 25 students from Vilnius Jesuit Gymnasium visited the U.S. Embassy. Political/Economic officer Justin Heung and Cultural Attache Nina Murray spoke about their careers in the U.S. Foreign Service as well as American culture, studies at American high schools, and famous American Lithuanians.
Discussion on "Power of International Educational Exchange"

On June 5th, U.S. Embassy together with Global Lithuanian Leaders and the American Councils for International Education, sponsored a panel discussion on educational exchanges at ISM University. As Ambassador Derse stated during the discussion "we live in an inter-connected world, where it is critical for young people to have open minds and open hearts". Video »
