Opening of an exhibition at the Jewish Culture and Information Center
January 27, 2012
In commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, on January 27th, Ambassador Derse attended the opening of an educational exhibition at the Jewish Culture and Information Center (JCIC), located in the former Vilnius Jewish ghetto. Embassy Vilnius and the Vilnius Municipality were the main sponsors of an exhibit designed to tell the story of “Malinas” hiding places for Jewish families during the Holocaust.
The exhibit has a re-created “malina” in the cellar of the JCIC, as well as lightboxes displaying copies of anti-Semitic material from the war period. Lastly, a small theater in the cellar accommodates up to 50 people to show films and hear from speakers. The JCIC already has 10 schools signed up to visit and participate in these educational talks, led by the JCIC director and the designer of the exhibit.
