U.S. Ambassador Anne E. Derse presented her credentials to President Grybauskaitė at the Presidential Palace on October 14, 2009.
Ambassador Derse arrived in Lithuania on October 7. The U.S. Senate officially confirmed her as the next Ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania on July 24. She was sworn-in as Ambassador on September 28.
A career member of the U.S. Foreign Service, Ambassador Derse previously served as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan from June 2006 to July 2009.
After presenting her credentials, Ambassador Derse said, "Lithuania is a strong friend and ally of the United States. We enjoy excellent relations across a broad range of shared interests. I am honored that President Obama has appointed me as Ambassador to Lithuania. During my tenure, I will work to deepen our security, economic, and commercial ties, strengthen the bonds of friendship between the Lithuanian and American peoples, and pursue our partnership with Lithuania to advance freedom and democratic values."
