UNITED STATES TO AWARD GRANT TO PROMOTE ENERGY SECURITY IN LITHUANIA
Attention Media Representatives: The United States Government will award a grant to conduct a feasibility study for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Lithuania. U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) Director Larry W. Walther will travel to Lithuania to sign the agreement. A signing ceremony will take place on Monday, September 15, 2008 at 11:00 at the Ministry of Economy (Gedimino pr. 38/2).
A press conference will follow the ceremony.
The $826,501 grant to the Ministry of Economy will support a study that will examine three potential sites for an LNG import terminal. Based on the results, the Ministry of Economy will select one site that will be examined in greater detail in the future to determine the appropriate technology for the terminal. LNG is important to Lithuania's efforts to diversify its energy sources and assure security of supply.
