Presentation of "Pažink JAV" contest at the Geography Teacher’s Association Conference

September 21, 2012

On September 21st, Embassy representatives Ana Comsa and Margarita Juzoniene traveled south to the lovely town of Druskininkai, where they addressed conference attendees of the Lithuanian Geography Teacher’s Association.  The Association seeks to increase students overall knowledge of geography through various methods of teaching.  During the conference, the Association announced the “Pazink JAV” (Discover America) contest, whereby Lithuanian school children will compete against one another on the topic of American geography.  The winners of the two grade groups (6-8 & 9-10) will each receive a free trip to the United States.  During her presentation, Ana Comsa also announced that the US Embassy Vilnius will be providing two iPads to the second place holders of the contest.

Located just outside the main conference room, the US Embassy Information Terminal was widely used by the teachers.  The terminal is a touch screen computer, pre-loaded with information about US geography, history and culture, designed to appeal to young audiences.  One of the terminals is currently in Panorama shopping center in Vilnius, one will be placed in Utena Public Library, and the third “mobile” terminal will travel around Lithuania.
