"Call me Ishmael": a night of American literature, music and cuisine
On May 11th, the restaurant “Jalta” hosted a special evening of American literature, music and cuisine. Talented American Fulbrighters Jake Levine and Menachem Kaiser recited their poetry and prose, while Fulbrighter Emily Daina Šaras enchanted the audience with a magnificent vocal performance. Homemade bagels were then produced to the delight of the audience, who quickly ate as many as they could get their hands on.

The famous American blues singer Sugaray performed on May 9th at the "New York" club in Vilnius. Nicholas Hersh, the Cultural Attaché of the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius, had the honor of opening the concert. This event was part of the Spring of American Culture.

Čiurlionis Foundation and U.S. Embassy award series event
On March 17th, U.S. Embassy in Vilnius together with Čiurlionis Foundation hosted a special event to commemorate 100th anniversary of M. K. Čiurlonis’ death. During the ceremony, two honored guests, Viktor Sidabras and Linda Maxey, were presented with the “Intellectuals of Lithuania and the USA 2011” awards for their personal contributions to enhancing strong ties between the United States and Lithuania.

On February 4th, members of the U.S. Congressional delegation led by Senator John McCain and Senator Joseph Lieberman visited Lithuania. Congressional Delegation met with President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė and visited Lithuanian Parlament to meet with students of the European Humanities University and discuss the post-election situation in Belarus.

Exhibition "Self-education, Studies, Career 2011"
On February 3-5th, representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius together with Vilnius Educational Information Center participated in studies and career fair "Self-education Studies Career 2011". This year, more than 40000 visitors came to the exhibition and visited "Education USA" stand as well as informational seminars, during which U.S. Government-funded programs were presented to the audience.

Visit of the Director of the Cincinnati Art Museum Aaron Betsky
On February 3rd, Aaron Betsky, the Director of the Cincinnati Art Museum spoke at the National Gallery of Art in Vilnius as the final presentation in the series “SHOW OFF*: Architecture on Display”. Mr. Betsky’s lecture, “Showing Architecture” discussed the way that art is present in society and the way it is represented.

Outreach visit to Šakiai and Lukšiai
On February 1st, Cultural Attaché Stephanie Stone, Political Intern Seth Hord, and Grants Manager Inga Sidrys visited Lukšiai Vinco Grybo gymnasium to share information about U.S. Black History Month with local students. They also met with the Mayor of Šakiai and local NGOs to learn more about the activities taking place in the region.

Visit to Šaltinis Boarding School
December is filled with lots of gift giving and donations to charity. This year is no exception. On December 2nd, several groups from the local community cooperated with members from the US Embassy to provide a special day for the 100 children at the Šaltinis Boarding School in Vilnius.

European Holocaust History, Human Rights and Tolerance Today
On November 29th, U.S. Ambassador in Lithuania Anne E. Derse opened week-long seminar for teacher-trainers called "European Holocaust History, Human Rights and Tolerance Today". The first seminar was held November 29-December 3 at the Tolerance Center in Vilnius. Additional seminars will be held in Kaunas in 2011 and in Klaipeda in 2012.

Second year of ExCEL program successfully launched!
On October 20th at the Vilnius Jesuit Gymnasium Ambassador Derse, along with Ministry of Education Chancellor Dainius Numgaudis and American Councils Director Kevin Reiling, launched the second year of the Exchanges in Culture, Education and Leadership (ExCEL) program – a high school exchange program that sends Lithuanian students to the U.S. for one full academic year at a public U.S. high school, and to live with an American family.

On Saturday, October 2, 2010, 26 members from the 493rd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron visited the Kaišiadorių region. They spent their day off with the 22 children of the St.Joseph Orphanage.
