Immigrant visas
Adoption in Lithuania
According to adoption law in Lithuania, foreign adoptions are legally allowed. In practice, however, the Lithuanian government closely scrutinizes any adoptions of Lithuanian orphans by foreigners.
While the consular section of the Embassy processes the I-604 (Request for and Report on Overseas Orphan Investigation), the immigrant visa will be processed in Warsaw, Poland.
Please bring the following documents with you when you appear at the embassy in Vilnius to receive the I-604 form:
- Child's new birth certificate with a new name
- Certified copy of the child's old birth certificate
- Court decree regarding adoption of a child
- International Adoption Certificate
- Proof of fingerprint clearance
- Copy of the home study
