U.S. Ambassador Stephen D. Mull to visit Advanced Javelin Training with the Lithuanian Minister of Defense Linas Linkevicius

September 25, 2003

On Friday, 26 September 2003, Ambassador Stephen D. Mull will join the Minister of Defense Linas Linkevicius, representatives of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense, Lithuanian Armed Forces and American Embassy in Vilnius to visit the Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanized Infantry Battalion in Rukla and participate in the newly acquired U.S. produced Javelin Weapon System training closing event.

American instructors were involved in a weeklong training course to the Lithuanian troops to train them in the operation of the man-portable Javelin Antitank Weapon System.

Lithuania's purchase of this advanced weapons system demonstrates the desire to modernize its armed forces and make them interoperable with the US and NATO nations. The advanced Javelin weapon system is only offered to the closest of US allies. Less then 10 countries in the world have the Javelin Antitank Weapon system.
