U.S. Navy Ship Visit to Klaipeda

17 May 2007

The United States Embassy in Lithuania is pleased to announce that on May 19, the United States naval vessel USS NORMANDY will arrive in Klaipeda for a port visit.

The USS NORMANDY is a Ticonderoga class cruiser commanded by Capt. Robert S. Kerno, USN.  The ship is assigned to the U.S. Navy Sixth Fleet, and is home ported in Norfolk, Virginia.  The USS NORMANDY will be visiting Lithuania as part of a routine port call.

Members of the USS NORMANDY crew will take part in Society Day events while in Klaipeda. On May 21, crew members will assist in repairing a local orphanage and will take part in a sporting event with the orphanage's residents.  Last year, the American embassy donated surplus furniture as a gift to the orphanage, with assistance from the Lithuanian Navy.
