American Culture Month in Lithuania

23 March 2007

The U.S. Embassy to Lithuania is pleased to announce American Culture Month 2007

Program events will be taking place in Vilnius, Kaunas, and Klaipeda, and will include film screenings, concerts, dance performances, and a photo exhibition.

This year, the traditional American Jazz Night will be part of the American Culture Month program, and will take place in both Vilnius and Klaipeda.  We will present a big band group The Soldiers of Swing, who carry on the jazz legacy pioneered by Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, and other legends of the Big Band Era. Under the direction of Sergeant First Class William King, The Soldiers of Swing are part of the United States Army Europe Band and Chorus.

The Soldiers of Swing have traveled to many international festivals in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, and the Klaipeda Jazz Festival in Lithuania.  As part of the American Culture Month, The Soldiers of Swing will perform in Vilnius and Klaipeda on March 27 and 29.

A photo exhibition American Roadside Architecture by American photographer John Margolies will open at the Europos Centras shopping mall on March 30. Photos will be on display on the second floor level until April 30.
