On November 10 the United States Embassy will celebrate the opening of the first American Corner in Lithuania at Povilas Višinskis Public Library in Šiauliai.  U.S. Ambassador Stephen Mull will join Šiauliai County Deputy Governor Antanas Šliauteris, Šiauliai Mayor Vytautas Juškus, and Library Director Rūta Žirgulytė to commemorate the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Established in close partnership with Povilas Višinskis Public Library, the American Corner is a place for Lithuanians to learn about American culture and to gain greater access to the United States through books, music, reference materials, movies and the Internet.  The primary goal of the American Corner is to serve as a resource for the people of Lithuania.

The American Corner invites visitors seeking information on a variety of subjects, such as studying at American universities, discovering American literature, or doing business in the United States.  The Corner will also host various public programs, including speaker events, video conferences, and cultural exhibits. Access to the Corner is free and open to all interested citizens.

After the opening ceremony, at 18.00 the Marlon Jordan Quartet, a New Orleans jazz ensemble, will perform at Šiauliai Philharmonic Hall.  Tickets are available for purchase.
