October 24, 2001, Vilnius-- The Kaunas Technological University’s (KTU) Management Training Center will launch the first in a series of Government Ethics Training seminars for representatives from local government and other institutions on October 26th.
KTU’s Management Training Center was selected by the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius through an open competition to run a series of ethics training seminars for professionals working in the field of public administration. In cooperation with instructors from Lithuania and the United States, KTU’s Management Training Center will conduct this cycle of ethics training seminars in five of Lithuania’s largest cities-- Panevezys, Kaunas, Vilnius, Klaipeda, Siauliai.
Working groups will include members of Seimas (parliament), government and municipal civil servants, university lecturers, non-government organization leaders and media representatives, who will participate together in the seminars. Approximately 150 specialists will take part in the program. The official opening of the ethics training program will be marked at the Vilnius seminar to be held in the Seimas on November 23. Seimas and U.S. embassy officials are expected to attend.
The government ethics training program aims to increase public confidence in government institutions, improve the supervision of ethics, and increase the role of citizens, media and the academic community in maintaining high standards of government ethics.
