U.S. Embassy Introduces New Visa-Appointment Registration Telephone Service

October 3, 2001, Vilnius- Lithuanian citizens applying for U.S. visas are now able to register for an interview with an embassy consular official over the telephone. The procedure is simple. The applicant pays the mandatory 180 Lt visa processing fee into a Vilnius Bank branch account and waits 24 hours for payment processing to take place. After 24 hours, the applicant calls the embassy to set up an interview appointment.
Applicants are advised to follow the directions below:
1. Applicant must first pay the 180 Lt visa application fee at local Vilnius Bank branch (account number: 4603299)
2. The applicant must then wait 24 hours until the record of his deposit is recorded and obtained by embassy personnel.
3. After 24 hours, the applicant should call tel. (822)-665-600 or (822)-665-601 to request an appointment. An appointment will be scheduled over the telephone. Registration takes place Monday - Thursday from 10:00-13:00 hrs and from 14:00 - 16:45; Friday from 10:00-12:00 and from 14:00-16:00 hrs.
The waiting period for an interview is currently 3 to 4 weeks. For general information on applying for visas, applicants are advised to call tel. (822-665-500) to listen to a recorded message. If applicants do not have a touch-tone phone, they should ask to be connected to the recording by an embassy operator. Applicants may fill out applications on the day of the interview. However, those wishing to complete the form in advance, may obtain application forms at the U.S. Embassy (Akmenu 6, Vilnius) twenty four hours a day, 7 days per week or download from the web page. Friends or relatives may collect the application forms on behalf of the applicant.
This is the latest in a series of steps being taken by the U.S. Embassy to make applying for visas more convenient and efficient for Lithuanians citizens.
