Valuable Works of American Music Literature Presented to the Lithuanian Music Academy

With the assistance of Dr. Linda Maxey, her colleague from the U.S. University of Kansas, Prof. Daniel Politoske, and the U.S. Department of State Fulbright Academic Exchanges Program, the Lithuanian Music Academy will add some valuable works of music literature to their collection.

The Music Academy will use this music book collection as a primary source of information for studies of American music. The collection will be available not only to academy professors and students, but also to the professional performers.

PRESS EVENT: U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania Mr. Stephen D. Mull will participate in the Lithuanian Music Academy ceremony, which is scheduled to take place at the Music Academy Small Chamber Hall, Gedimino pr. 42, today, on 1 October 2003 at 16.00h. The U.S. Fulbright Program Professor in Lithuania Ms. Linda Maxey will also give a short concert on one of the world’s largest marimba she brought to Lithuania.

Lithuanian Music Academy actively participates in the U.S. Fulbright Academic Exchanges Program. The Academy has hosted two American Fulbright scholars. Dr. Darius Lapinskas in 1994-95, and Dr. Linda Maxey twice in 1998-99 and now. U.S. Fulbright student William Waite studied music composition in 1994-95, and Paul Budraitis was engaged in drama studies here in 2001-02. Lithuanian piano teacher Egle Perkumaite-Viksraitiene spent 1996-97 at the University of Miami studying piano pedagogy under the Fulbright program, and this year The LMA graduate Vytautas Germanavičius will spend a year in Mills College in California studying Music Technology.

The U.S. Fulbright Academic Exchanges Program promotes mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries, including Lithuania. It helps the citizens of both Lithuania and the United States to get to know each other’s culture and ideas and develops a stronger relationship between Lithuanian and American societies.
