International Conference: The Role of the University in Developing Business in the Technology Sector

October 2, 2002 -- Vilnius, Lithuania. The American Center together with Kaunas Technological University (KTU), American Chamber of Commerce (ACC), and American Institute in Lithuania is hosting an International Conference "The Role of the University in Developing Business in the Technology Sector". The Conference will start on 2 October 2002 at 09.00 h at the American Center conference hall (Pranciškonų 3/6, Vilnius, Lithuania).
This International event will bring together over 120 representatives of both Lithuanian and American academia and business, the Lithuanian Government, Members of Seimas (Parliament), and students of KTU.
The conference will focus on examining how Lithuanian small business leaders and university researchers in the technology sector can work together for mutual profit and enrichment of the country:
What will it take to develop a knowledge-based economy in Lithuania?
What can universities do to help develop new businesses?
What do businesses expect from universities?
What are investors looking for?
How can Lithuania make itself ready for the "new economy"?
The purpose of the conference is:
To focus attention on the role of the university in the practical development of business in the technology sector;
To support business development in Lithuania and develop stronger U.S.-Lithuanian ties in the technology sector;
To foster the knowledge economy in Lithuania
Welcoming addresses will be presented by H.E. Ambassador of the U.S. to Lithuania John F. Tefft, Rector of the Kaunas Technological University Prof. Dr. Habil. Ramutis Bansevičius, American Chamber of Commerce representative Mr. John Rowells; Advisor to the President of the Republic of Lithuania Mr. Remigijus Gaška will read President Valdas Adamkus address to Conference participants. Guest keynote speaker is Dr. David Winwood, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.
The Conference will include a digital videoconference with Academy Funds, North Carolina, USA, on the following subject: "What Investors Expect From Local Businesses."
Roundtable discussions of speeches and case study presentations will be followed both by Lithuanian and American comments, as well as questions and comments from the audience.
