10th Anniversary of the American Center

This week the American Center is celebrating its 10th Anniversary in Lithuania with poetry, art, and music.  Events are planned in Vilnius and Kaunas and include the Poetry of Kerry Keys (USA) with percussionist Vladimir Tarasov (Lithuania), photographs from the American West by Zinas Kazenas (Lithuania), and Cabaret songs by William Bolcom (USA).

For 10 years the American Center has carried its mission to promote mutual understanding and friendship by sending more than 200 students and scholars to the United States, and from the U.S. to Lithuania, on the Fulbright program and providing short-term professional training for hundreds of Lithuanians in the U.S. in fields ranging from public administration to civil society.  

Through the Democracy Commission it has supported the work of non-governmental organizations in fields such as Trafficking-in-Persons and Human Rights with grants totally more than 1 million USD.  

The Center has also sponsored the programs of American musicians and artists ranging from Andy Warhol to Yo-Yo Ma.  

In daily support of the mission, the American Center Library (Information Resource Center) has and continues to provide an access point for specialized periodicals and reference materials which focus on U.S. policy, international relations, economics and American society.
