U.S. Embassy donates 0.5 million Lt of Medical Equipment

Vilnius, September 12, 2000 -- The US Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation has made possible the shipment of over 0.5 million Lt of medical equipment and supplies to the hospital in Taurage. The hospital director, who has served for over 30 years at Taurage Hospital, expressed his gratitude for this tremendous donation, on behalf of the patients and staff at Taurage hospital. The equipment, much of which is brand new, will greatly assist the hospital staff in providing quality medical care and comforts to their patients. This donation is part of the Humanitarian Assistance Program of the United States European Command, and represents but one facet of the US-Lithuanian Defense Cooperation Program. This shipment arrived at Taurage hospital just a week after the US Embassy had awarded a contract to a local Taurage construction company to repair the plumbing and bathroom facilities. The US Ambassador has been invited to participate in the dedication ceremony upon completion of the construction project.
