U.S. Embassy Celebrates Independence Day, July 4th

On July 4th the Embassy celebrated the 229th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by recognizing the contributions to democracy of the following 4 groups of Lithuanians:

-- The family of Lt. Col. Gintautas Zenkevicius, the commander of the Lithuanian Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Afghanistan and MFA Political Advisor to the PRT, Dainius Baublys (who could not attend for their leadership in helping others gain the benefits of good government;

-- Anatoli Mikhailov, president of the Vilnius-based European Humanities University International for his contributions to education in support of democracy;

-- Audrone Mateviciene the General Director of Master Foods Lithuania for excellence in modern management and production practices; and

-- Chief Inspectors Dalius Kryzanauskas and Saulius Skeiveris of the Lithuanian Police in Siauliai for their efforts in combatting the Trafficking of Persons;

The Ambassador mentioned each of these exceptional Lithuanians and their achievements in his remarks on July 4.
