30 June 2006
The United States Embassy congratulates Marija Pileckyte on being selected to participate in the Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Initiative, an exchange program in the United States. Miss Pileckyte, a high school student from Anyksciai, will be representing Lithuania along with 35 other young leaders from across Europe and Central Asia. The Embassy is pleased to offer this opportunity to such a bright and talented young Lithuanian.
The Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Initiative is a three-week exchange program in the American State of North Carolina that focuses on the global issues that face youth on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. The initiative is named in honor of Benjamin Franklin, an American statesman and diplomat whose own life and career was dedicated to transatlantic cooperation.
The program aims to foster relationships among European and American youth, and to enable youth to face the global challenges of the 21st Century.
Exchange programs that bring together Lithuanian and American youth are a key component of the Lithuanian-American friendship. The U.S. Embassy looks forward to offering similar programs to talented Lithuanian students in the future.
