Lithuanian Cadets entering Class of 2006 at US Service Academies

Vilnius, June 12 – On Friday, June 14, at 10.00 h at the American Center (Pranciskonu str. 3/6, Vilnius) US Charge d’affaires Mr. William Davnie will present Certificates of Admission to the prestigious United States Naval, Coast Guard, and Air Force Academies to Tadas Alasevicius, Jevgenij Vidiajev, and Ieva Bagdziunaite.
Jevgenij Vidiajev will depart Lithuania on 17 June for Connecticut to begin his life as a military cadet entering the US Coast Guard Academy, a member of the Class of 2006. Tadas Alasevicus and Ieva Bagdziunaite will both depart Lithuania on the 18th of June, to begin their careers as members of the Naval and Air Force Academies’ Class of 2006, respectively.
Currently, Lithuania has five cadets attending US service Academies: two each at the United States Military Academy, and one each at the Untied States Naval, Air Force, and Coast Guard Academies.
The selection process for candidates began last summer. Candidates contact the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense after the competition has been announced. They undergo a screening process, which includes English language testing, medical testing, scholastic testing and physical testing. The top candidates are administered the standardized US collegiate tests: Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Candidates then work with the Chief, Office of Defense Cooperation at the US Embassy in Vilnius to complete the necessary paperwork, prepare essays, and pass a physical fitness test. Alasevicius, Vidiajev, and Bagdziunaite have been selected from a final field of 10 Lithuanian candidates.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense is currently in the process of reviewing candidates for next year’s competition.
