Four More Lithuanian Cadets to Study at U.S. Military Academies.

Ceremony to Take Place on Tuesday, 10 June, 10.00h at the American Center

June 10, 2003 -- Vilnius, Lithuania -- The American Center will host a ceremony on Tuesday, 10 June, at 10.00 h in honor of the four new Lithuanian cadets accepted to U.S. Military Academies. Ambassador John F. Tefft will present acceptance certificates, MG Jonas Kronkaitis, Chief of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, other Ministry of Defense representatives will congratulate the cadets and their families.

Class of 2007 now includes:

Ieva Kuzminaite and Vaidas Sinica who have been accepted to United States Air Force Academy (USAFA)
Tomas Laucys, United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA), and
Marius Caras, accepted to United States Naval Academy (USNA).
Ieva Kuzminaite is the second Lithuanian lady to be accepted to the US military academies. Both ladies will study at the Air Force Academy. Tomas Laucys' older brother Jonas Laucys is also already a cadet at the Naval Academy.

The selection process for the candidates began last summer. Candidates contact the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense. They undergo a screening process, which includes English language testing, medical testing, scholastic and physical testing. The top candidates are administered the standardized US collegiate tests: Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Candidates then work with the Chief of Office of Defense Cooperation at the US Embassy in Vilnius to complete the necessary paperwork, prepare essays, and pass a rigorous physical fitness test.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense Training and Studies Section is currently in the process of recruiting candidates for next year’s program.
