June 5, 2002, Vilnius, - The U.S. Embassy in Vilnius in association with the Management Training Center of Panevezys Institute of Kaunas University of Technology will hold the Final Conference of the Government Ethics Training Program at the Villon Hotel at 10.00 - 15.30h. The purpose of this Conference is to discuss overall program results among program participants.

In 2001, the U.S. Embassy initiated a Governmental Ethics Training Program in response to requests from Lithuanian Parliament and Municipal authorities. The goal of this program was to increase public confidence in government institutions, improve monitoring of ethics, and increase the role of public, the media and the academic community in guaranteeing the maintenance of high standards of government ethics.

During the past year, 18 ethics training sessions have been organized in five major Lithuanian cities: Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Siauliai, and Panevezys. Over 150 participants from government, parliament, NGOs, universities and media attended the training.

The Program was funded by the U.S. Government and implemented by the Management Training Center of Panevezys Institute of Kaunas University of Technology.
