U.S. Ambassador to Lithuania John F. Tefft to visit Panevezys School for Deaf Children

On 4 June 2002, Ambassador John F. Tefft and Mrs. Mariella Tefft will visit Panevezys School for Deaf Children.
This school has worked with the U.S. Embassy Office of Defense Cooperation and submitted a building renovation project, which may be funded under the U.S. Armed Forces European Command Humanitarian Assistance Program. Whether or not the project will be funded should be known by August of this year.
This renovation and reconstruction project is estimated to cost $150,000. Additional equipment and furnishing worth an additional $15,000 are also included in the project. The project has been approved both at the Ambassadorial level and by the U.S. European Command in Stuttgart, Germany (www.eucom.mil), but has not yet been approved by the U.S. Government in Washington. D.C.
Every year the U.S. Congress approves the list of Humanitarian Assistance Projects that are executed through U.S. Embassies Offices of Defense Cooperation by Military Commands. This year the European Command funded 259 HAP projects in 91 countries of Europe and Africa.
In Lithuania, previous approved and already finished projects include hospital renovations in Siauliai and Taurage, orphanage renovation in Palanga, renovation of two regional Civil Protection Training Centers, and other projects with a total value over $900,000.
