Prominent Speakers to Discuss Tolerance

On Tuesday, 31 May2005, at 2 p.m., the U.S. Embassy in cooperation with Sugihara Foundation, the Polish Embassy and representatives of other organizations will heat an event to discuss tolerance.

Adviser to the Lithuanian Prime Minister Vilius Kavaliauskas, European Commission Ambassador of Diversity and Tolerance in Lithuania Prof. Leonidas Donskis and Prof. Egidijus Aleksandravičius representing the Sugihara Foundation, will give remarks along with the U.S. Ambassador Stephen Mull and the Polish Ambassador Janusz Skolimowski.

Overall theme of the event is tolerance - lessons learned from World War II and how this can be applied to future challenges.  Program will focus on acknowledging mistakes and heroes of the past.

Some Lithuanian high school students, media representatives, members of Seimas, representatives of the clergy, the Jewish, the Muslim and other minority communities were invited.

After brief remarks, there will be a question and answer session and refreshments. Speakers will be available for media interviews.  The event is planned for one hour.
