The equipment, provided by the U.S. Export Control and Border Security Office is worth approximately $330,000 (891,000 LTL).
The Lithuanian Police, State Border Guard Service, Customs Department, Special Investigative Service, and Radiation Protection Center will receive and use the equipment. The purpose of this equipment donation is to further strengthen the capability of these organizations to detect and interdict materials used to produce weapons of mass destruction.
The United States and Lithuania cooperate extensively in the field of law enforcement. This donation is only one element of the wider program of export control and border security assistance that the United States is providing to Lithuania.
In the future the Unites States will provide additional equipment for the Lithuanian border control and law enforcement agencies, as well as specialized training for different Lithuanian agencies to help make Lithuanian borders even more secure.
The donated equipment includes:
- OID Inspection Kits - Endoscopes for looking into tight spaces (flexible arm with small camera and light).
- Panasonic Laptops and cases
- Contraband Detection Kits, (CT-30) - Contains a laser distance measuring device used for measuring containers to see if there is a false wall. There is a density meter for finding contraband in false compartments.
- Garmin Handheld GPS units
- Product Acoustic Signature Systems (PASS) - This device detects anomalies using sound waves. This device is used to find contraband contained in a container of liquid or gas, such as a tanker or barrel.
