U.S. Embassy in Cooperation with the Law University of Lithuania Sponsoring Conference on Strategies to Fight Organized Crime and Trafficking in Persons.

The U.S. Embassy and the Law University of Lithuania will hold an International Seminar on Operational Strategies to Fight Organized Crime and Trafficking in Human Beings on April 5-7, 2004, Ateities g. 20.
The key objective of the seminar is to strengthen the capacity of the Lithuanian criminal justice practitioners with operational strategies to fight organized crime, trafficking in human beings and smuggling of migrants, as well as high level corruption linked to those criminal activities.
The seminar is also designed to enhance institutional cooperation among law enforcement agencies, prosecution and judicial offices at the national and international levels. Eight international criminal justice experts from the U.S., Mexico, Great Britain, Italy, and Spain will discuss international anti-organized crime strategies and international best practices. As an outcome of the seminar, proposals addressing institutional capacity building programs, special techniques to be used by law enforcement, prosecutorial and judicial authorities and ways to enhance international cooperation in fighting organized crime and trafficking in human beings may be developed.
U.S. Ambassador Stephen D. Mull and Law University Rector Prof. Alvydas Pumputis will open the conference.
