Mr. Stephen D. Mull Nominated as New United States Ambassador to Lithuania: Biography

Stephen D. Mull has been nominated by U.S. President George W. Bush to be the next Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Lithuania. Mr. Mull’s nomination will now be forwarded to the United States Senate for formal approval. It is expected that Mr. Mull will arrive in Lithuania later this year.
Mr. Mull is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service in the class of Minister Counselor. He is currently serving as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Jakarta, Indonesia, and has served as a Consular or Political Officer for the U.S. Missions in Poland, the Bahamas, and South Africa since the beginning of his career in the Foreign Service in 1982.
Prior to his assignment in Jakarta, Mr. Mull worked as Deputy Director of the State Department Operations Center, as Political Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, Poland, as Director of the Office of Southern European Affairs in the Bureau of European Affairs, and as Deputy Executive Secretary in the Office of the Secretary of State.
Mr. Mull has received numerous awards during his State Department career, including the Director General's Award for Political Reporting in 1988, four Superior Honor awards, and others. Most recently, Mr. Mull was the recipient of the Baker-Wilkins Award as the outstanding Deputy Chief of Mission and a Presidential Meritorious Service Award in 2002.
Stephen D. Mull was born April 30, 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of Science in International Politics from Georgetown University in 1980. Mr. Mull is married to Cheryl Stephan, and they have one son, Ryan, who is seven years old.
