President of the United States G. W. Bush Congratulates Lithuania on The Occasion of Independence Day

President George W. Bush sent a message of congratulations to President Valdas Adamkus paying tribute to the Lithuanian people as they celebrate their independence on February 16.

Dear Mr. President:

On behalf of the people of the United States, I extend my congratulations on the occasion of Lithuania's Independence Day on February 16.   The people of the United

States treasure their friendship and partnership with the people of Lithuania.

I sincerely appreciate Lithuania's vigorous efforts in promoting democracy both regionally and across the world.

Lithuania stands out as a country eager to share the benefits of its own freedom and independence with other countries seeking to make similar progress. I look forward to continuing our efforts together to promote democracy and peace.
