Award Ceremony for the Annual Linda Maxey Percussion Scholarship

Today, at 1.00 p.m., the Lithuanian Music Academy will host the annual Linda Maxey Percussion Scholarship award ceremony.

Last year, Linda Maxey, marimbist and former U.S. Fulbright program scholar established a scholarship to be awarded annually to acknowledge the progress and outstanding achievement of percussion students.  This year five students will receive scholarships: Martynas Lukoševičius, RolandasButavičius, Gediminas Mačiulskis, Mindaugas Juskavičius and Mikas Šliogeris.

The ceremony willtake place in the Music Academy Mazoji Sale (second floor) as the first item ofthe Academy’s Senate meeting.

In 2002, theSenate of the Lithuanian Music Academy voted to award Linda Maxey and HonoraryDoctorate degree in appreciation of her work on behalf of the Academy. She returns each year to teach, perform and to arrange cross-cultural exchangesbetween musicians from the USA and Lithuania. In 2000, Linda Maxey established a scholarship fund at the University of Kansas for Lithuanian music students, and forthe past three years 4 students from the Lithuanian Music Academy have received scholarships to pursuegraduate degrees at the University of Kansas.
