Coretta Scott King, a Tireless Advocate of Civil Rights and the Wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dies in the USA
31 January 2006
It is with great sadness that the U.S. Embassy notes the passing of Coretta Scott King, a tireless advocate of civil rights and the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In respect for all Ms. King did to advance the cause of equality and tolerance, the U.S. Embassy will be lowering its flag to half mast.
The King name became synonymous with the nonviolent yet insistent campaign for civil rights and equality. No one displayed more love while working toward the goal of equality than the Kings. Coretta Scott King devoted herself to the same goals for which her husband worked, and the United States of America is a stronger and more just nation as a result of her efforts. We have lost a great citizen, but the pursuit of a more just America will continue.
