U.S. Embassy Consular Section in Vilnius Launches New Informational Telephone Service

January 14, 2000

January 6, 2000, Vilnius— The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy has launched a new voice announcement system that is currently operational, providing quick and clear messages regarding general visa and green card information.  The recordings are in Lithuanian, making it easy for Lithuanian nationals to understand.  Two telephone lines have been assigned to handle inquiries.  The first line is a voice announcement devoted to providing general visa information.  The second line is a voice announcement containing green card lottery information.

These telephone lines were introduced to make visa and green card information accessible in a convenient and efficient manner to people all over Lithuania.  The new system enhances the services already  provided by the Consular Section by decreasing the number of visits to the Embassy required to obtain general visa or green card lottery information.  This is particularly convenient for those working during day hours or living outside of the capitol.
