U.S. Embassy Salutes Lithuanian Freedom Fighters

January 13, 2006

The Embassy of the United States honors those who gave their lives in defending Lithuanian independence 15 years ago this day.  In condeming the assault on the Lithuanian people, President George H.W. Bush said on January 13, 1991 "Legitimacy is not built by force; it's earned by the consensus of the people, by openness, and by the protection of basic human and political rights."

We admire and applaud the accomplishments the restored and independent Republic of Lithuania has brought to its people over these 15 years.
