Lithuania and the Visa Waiver Program at the One Year Mark
By Bradley Norton, U.S. Consul
On November 17, 2008, Lithuania became a member of the Visa Waiver Program, allowing Lithuanians to travel to the U.S. visa-free for short stays. The Embassy is very happy that interest in the Visa Waiver Program remains high, and now that we are approaching the one year anniversary of the program, we would like to revisit some of the aspects of the program in order to ensure a greater understanding of travel options. full text

President Obama: "No nation, however large or small, wealthy or poor, can escape the impact of climate change. Rising sea levels threaten every coastline. More powerful storms and floods threaten every continent. More frequent droughts and crop failures breed hunger and conflict in places where hunger and conflict already thrive. On shrinking islands, families are already being forced to flee their homes as climate refugees. The security and stability of each nation and all peoples -- our prosperity, our health, and our safety -- are in jeopardy. And the time we have to reverse this tide is running out."
By Damian Leader, Chargé, U.S. Embassy, Vilnius, Lithuania
"On September 22, U.S. President Barack Obama speaks to world leaders on climate change during a special U.N. summit in New York on the eve of the 64th session of the U.N. General Assembly.
President Obama recognizes that the United States must be a leader in the global effort to combat climate change. We have a responsibility as the world's largest historic emitter of greenhouse gases. We know that without U.S. emissions reductions no solution to climate change is possible, so the U.S. will take the lead in building a 21st century clean energy economy." full text
"The ninth annual Trafficking in Persons Report sheds light on the faces of modern-day slavery and on new facets of this global problem. The human trafficking phenomenon affects virtually every country, including the United States. In acknowledging America's own struggle with modern-day slavery and slavery-related practices, we offer partnership. We call on every government to join us in working to build consensus and leverage resources to eliminate all forms of human trafficking."
